John lives in Carnoustie with his second wife, Erica (his Amanuensis).
He has four sons by his first wife and three grand children. Born and educated in Glasgow, John was a pupil at the High School of Glasgow.
He is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde and also of the University of St Andrews (Queens College).
He studied for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the National Research Council, Ottawa, Canada. He enjoyed a short career in Industry with Esso Research, Oxford and with ICI, Grangemouth before embarking on a career in teaching. He retired in 2001 after 34 years in education.
His main pastime in retirement, other than Rotary, is golf.
He joined Rotary in 1998 and has served as a member of Council in a variety of posts including International Convener and Club President. He is currently entering his third year as a District Officer viz District 1010 Sports Officer and Scottish Sports Officer.
He is an avid Rotarian and hopes to continue serving the aims of Rotary in whatever capacity arises.
